The brand new ¥ANG song, “Weirdly Positive,” out now on Straight Up Records (distributed by Tuff Gong International), suddenly came to ¥ANG in June. He just wanted to write something upbeat & very rhythm-based. He also wanted positive subject matter. He’s a bit of a depressive and was suddenly feeling ‘weirdly’ positive, an unusual state of affairs.
The song was organized fairly quickly but the lyrics came last. From the get-go he knew the chorus had to be ‘way away away away’. The rest of the lyrics fitted around that. It wasn’t supposed to be part of the recording session in July for his upcoming EP – his drummer, Bradley Higbie didn’t feel the drum part was ready, but he insisted. He’s glad he did.
“Weirdly Positive” was recorded July 7th at Nu-Tone Recording in Oakland California. ¥ANG on guitar and vocals, Christina Liu on bass and Bradley Higbie on drums. Recording engineer Ben Hirschfield. Mixed and produced by ¥ANG. Mastered at Abbey Road by Geoff Pesche.
