THE MARLEY FAMILY TO COMMEMORATE THE BIRTH OF BOB MARLEY WITH ‘ONE LOVE 79’Â
CELEBRATION AND LIVESTREAM
The annual celebration of the life and legacy of the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley (OM) will once again take place on February 6th, the anniversary of his birth. This year, the Marley Family and the Bob Marley Group of Companies honor the Jamaican musical icon’s 79th birthday with a full schedule of events under the theme ‘One Love 79’ – incorporating the timeless classic and BBC-designated ‘Song of the 20th Century,’ “One Love.”
Bob Marley Group of Companies CEO, Cedella Marley, says “Each year we look forward to honoring my dad in a way that highlights his legacy and is inclusive of our extended family, friends, and fans from around the globe. More than a song title, “One Love” is a timeless call to the world, and sums up the spirit and the genius that is Bob Marley.”
Fans worldwide are invited to watch the entire slate of festivities, including an encore presentation of the ‘One Love 79’ concert, by tuning in to the live stream on the Tuff Gong TV YouTube channel, which will run all day starting at 7am Eastern on Tuesday, February 6th. The livestream, hosted by media personalities Alaine Laughton and Tamoy Campbell, will treat viewers to a host of musical and other activities, as well as birthday greetings from around the world.
LET’S GET TOGETHER
The Bob Marley Museum, situated at the Gong’s former home at 56 Hope Road in Kingston annually draws fans from around the world seeking to honour Marley on his birthday. This year, there will be a live TV broadcast all day from 7am Eastern on Tuff Gong TV and Bob Marley socials in addition to a live radio broadcast on IRIE-FM, as well as a petting zoo, reading sessions, select artisans, giveaways, and special tours of the museum.
‘LIVE AT BOB’S’
Another special music presentation, ‘Live at Bob’s’ will unfold on the deck of the Marley Natural dispensary at the museum. This will feature emerging artists as well as winners of the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) original songwriting competition.
EMANCIPATION PARK CONCERT
To wrap up the day of celebrations, the Government of Jamaica, through the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, will present a Bob Marley tribute concert, live from Kingston’s Emancipation Park, beginning at 7pm on February 6. This will also be broadcast LIVE on Tuff Gong TV’s YouTube channel.

In conjunction with the February 14th opening of the highly anticipated new film Bob Marley: One Love (via Paramount Pictures), Island Records and Tuff Gong are proud to announce the release of BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE FILM), an EP presenting seven essential songs composed by the revered Jamaican reggae icon, as interpreted by contemporary stars Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Jessie Reyez, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley, grandson of Bob Marley.
The Marley family had a hand in choosing and approving all selections for the EP. This underÂscores the strong, enduring six-decade relationship with Island Records, the Marley family, and Jamaica, elements which are reflected in the movie as well. Also noted: five of the EP’s seven songs originated on Exodus (1977), the landmark RIAA gold LP by Bob Marley & the Wailers: “Natural Mystic,” “Exodus,” “Waiting in Vain,” “Three Little Birds,” and the eponymous “One Love.”
“The mission is always to spread Daddy’s music to every corner of the Earth, and we were very thoughtful in handpicking these artists,” said Cedella Marley.  “Having his songs rebirthed at the same time we get to show the world his story through this movie, is something that my family and I are extremely proud to be a part of.”
