“The mind is a great tool, but the heart is a great guide. When the heart
and mind are in sync, the soul can sing.” Don Dada
The two albums have an oxymoron play on each other, while speaking of the power that comes from a united effort between The Heart and The Mind, his music also expresses and tackles moments in life where the two are immensely opposing forces.
The Heart &The Mind
Such is Don Dada’s music as these are common sentiments among young Black Africans around the world. Exploring social ills, deviances as well as trials and tribulations is characteristic of his music. It is music born out of the African life and struggle, which in itself is also a celebration of the resilience of African people, especially, the youth.
Don Dada, however, does not shy away from the plea of his people and continent. Many of the opposing forces between the heart and the mind are born of neo-colonialism and the continued exploitation of Black people. And music being his outlet and a universal language, on The Heart & The Mind Don Dada proves he is one of the most eloquent voices of his generation, pouring his emotions out and yet inspiring his peers and the masses alike at the same time.
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart. – Nelson Mandela
