*Kingston, Jamaica* – Sharon Marley, renowned singer, performer, and member of the legendary Marley family, joined her talented band DUBBWIZE, Grub Cooper, Andrew Cassanova and Alana DaCosta, for three days of dynamic rehearsals at Tuff Gong Studios, Kingston. The rehearsals were in preparation for her much-anticipated one-hour set aboard the Maxwell Urban Hang Suite Cruise, set to sail with a roster of exceptional talents.
Drawing on a lifetime of musical heritage, Sharon Marley has carved a unique space in the world of reggae music. As the daughter of reggae icons Bob and Rita Marley, Sharon grew up immersed in the sound of music, performing with the Grammy Award-winning group Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers from an early age. Over the years, she has expanded her influence beyond reggae and is embracing jazz and blues tonations while focusing on the energy of sound frequencies. Sharon has maintained her passion for working with children and continues to shine as a cultural ambassador for Jamaica. Sharon, in a heartwarming moment of generational legacy, rehearsed for her upcoming performance with her mother, the legendary Rita Marley, watching proudly from the sidelines as Sharon breathed new life into songs her mother once sang on stage many years ago.
Tuff Gong, a hub for reggae music, remains a significant landmark where Jamaica’s musical history is preserved and continues to thrive. Sharon’s set for the Maxwell Urban Hang Suite Cruise celebrated her roots, legacy, and artistry. She continues to captivate audiences with her single releases like STEPPAH featuring Big Youth and most recently FIREBIRD which showcases her distinct mellow sound and heartfelt writing skills, produced by Leroy Romans and Ingemar Prendergast.
During her performance on the Urban Hang Suite Cruise, Sharon paid tribute to her mother, Rita Marley, with powerful renditions of iconic songs like “Easy Sailing” and “One Draw,” celebrating Rita’s contributions to reggae and her enduring influence on the genre. Her set also included tributes to her singing group Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers “Today” and “Good Time” which was very popular with their fans as well as several song from her father Bob Marley’s catalog to include “Trench Town”, “Is this Love” and a jazz rendition of “Jamming” to the crowd’s delight. She also performed her re-make of Rita Marley’s “Just One More Morning” which was written by Ricky Walters of Fab 5 fame. Sharon effortlessly bridges the past and present, blending tradition with fresh sounds that resonate with both long-time fans and new listeners alike. Her performance offered a heartfelt homage to her family’s legacy while charting her own path as a breath of fresh air in reggae music.
Sharon Marley’s latest single, *FIREBIRD*, is a powerful anthem about rising above life’s obstacles, much like a phoenix rising from the ashes. The song symbolizes resilience, transformation, and renewal—mirroring not only Sharon’s personal journey but also the broader struggles and triumphs of those who persevere in the face of adversity. Drawing on themes of empowerment and rebirth, much like Marley’s cry to “Get Up, Stand Up”.
