Newly Renovated Tuff Gong International Studio Brings Entertainment Industry Together at Official Relaunch

Stephen Marley sounds the gong to officially open the newly-renovated Tuff Gong Studios
Tuff Gong International Studios is back and better, after an extensive renovation to the legendary recording studio under the vision and guidance of Cedella Marley, the CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies. The official relaunch, held on March 5, 2026, at 220 Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston, welcomed industry heavyweights, members of the media and government officials. Among those in attendance were Cedella Marley, multi-Grammy Award-winning singer, producer and songwriter, Stephen Marley, along with other members of the Marley family, Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Dr. Marcia Griffiths O.J., LITT, Judy Mowatt of the legendary I-Three, renowned saxophonist Dean Fraser and Joseph Bogdanovich, CEO of Downsound Records.

In a symbolic moment during the ceremony, Stephen Marley struck the ceremonial gong, marking the relaunch of the newly renovated studios. The gesture paid tribute to Bob Marley’s nickname, “Tuff Gong,” and the enduring legacy that continues to shape the studio’s identity and purpose. Reflecting on the significance of the space, Stephen Marley said, “We are very proud of this space. It’s for all of us. It’s for Jamaica. This is the studio of time and experience.”

Guests were then invited on guided tours of the facility. The first tour was led by Cedella Marley and General Manager Lecia-Gaye Taylor, with support from senior tour guide, musician and actor Wilfred Chambers, also known as Ricky Chaplin.

Stephen Marley also spent time interacting with guests and members of the media, sharing his appreciation for seeing the original vision and drawings for the renovation realised so faithfully in the completed space. The renovation was led by project designer Jon Clarke, with fixtures manufactured and installed by Integra Design, led by Arturo Boada.

Adding a vibrant musical moment to the evening, members of the third generation of the Marley family also blessed the space with their talents. Yohan Marley and Mystic Marley treated attendees to a sweet musical offering that reflected the enduring creativity of the Marley lineage and the spirit of the newly renewed studio. Their performances added warmth and energy to the celebration, reminding guests that Tuff Gong remains not only a historic institution but a living home for reggae’s next generation. The moment was made even more special with the support of Red Stripe, whose partnership helped bring the celebration to life.
