The project brings Kingston-born, Los Angeles-based freedom singer Jahmi Roc together with producer Dale Dizzle Virgo for a spiritually grounded EP about love as a force that frees rather than confines, with the previously released Sweet Like Mango serving as its bright first doorway.

Sweet Like Mango turns Caribbean foodways, patois, humor, devotion, and sensuality into an accessible entry point for the EP. From there, Love Like Liberation moves through protection, desire, self-recognition, consequence, and communal care, carrying roots-reggae foundations, dancehall-inflected language, lovers-rock warmth, R&B feeling, gospel testimony, and spoken word.

The EP opens with the invocation of Love like Liberation (Intro), then lands in the romance of Sweet Like Mango before moving into the resilience of They Try, the Black feminist affirmation of Empress Love, the faith and shelter of Safe & Sound, the longing of Anticipation, the self-crowning of Queen, the emotional rupture of Man Down, and the closing reflection Blueprint.

Rather than separating pleasure from politics, Jahmi Roc frames love as sweetness, care, dignity, truth-telling, spiritual protection, and collective survival. The result is a project for lovers-rock and reggae-fusion listeners, Caribbean and Black diaspora audiences, progressive R&B fans, and communities drawn to music as healing and transformation.

Jahmi Roc (Dr. Racquel Bernard) is a Kingston-born, Los Angeles-based freedom singer and musicologist whose work bridges reggae, dancehall, R&B, gospel, hip hop, poetry, and Black feminist thought. Holding a doctorate in musicology from UCLA, she studies Black women’s reggae as freedom singing while embodying that tradition in music grounded in healing, spiritual dignity, and social clarity.
